Responding to the front-page story of The Times today (18/10/18), Manchester's Opposition Leader, John Leech, said:
“I am shocked to hear of the ordeal this woman went through and I want to give my personal reassurance that I will do all I can to prevent anything like this happening in the future.
“I am appalled and frustrated that the first I have heard about this is on the front page of a national newspaper, and I have immediately requested a full briefing from the Executive Member to understand how this dreadful situation could have been allowed to happen.
“Now more than ever, Manchester Council, the Courts and everyone involved in the case must provide full transparency and complete cooperation to ensure this never, ever happens again.
“We have a duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society and everyone involved in this case must take responsibility for failing this vulnerable woman on such a catastrophic scale.
"Responsibility must be sought and action at the highest level must be taken.
"Silence is absolutely unacceptable.”
